Cubs hockey is for U5 to U13 hockey players. Practices are every Saturday morning at the Randburg Sports Complex on the artificial hockey fields, with a number of junior club tournaments hosted through the season by various Gauteng hockey clubs.

The Cubs section is normally run by a parent, who’s child or children play in this section. We ensure that each age group has sufficient coaches and co-ordinators to coach and manage each age group. The groups are U5 mixed, U7 mixed, U9 girls, U9 boys, U11 girls, U11 boys, U13 girls and U13 boys. Depending on the number of players, we normally require one to two co-ordinators for each group.

The co-ordinator liaises with parents each week based on whether there is practice or a tournament. (S)He also work closely with their coaches, the Cubs Head and the Treasurer. U13 co-ordinators also need to ensure that their team(s) have an umpire when playing in the Friday night league.

Coaches are typically parents who have previously played the game or students that are currently playing hockey at a minimum standard. Our Cubs coaches are directed and managed by a head coach.

The focus of our Cubs coaches is to instill the basic techniques in our young players while having fun doing it. Our coaches manage players with diverse sets of skills, particularly with the older children, from beginner to provincial hockey player.
