Shumbas Hockey Club is a family oriented hockey club that provides a quality hockey experience to its members whether they are 4 years, 15 years or 55 years old. Shumbas strives to represent the best of what hockey has to offer. Our aspirational identity and purpose is described below:
Growth and development
The origins of Shumbas is the development of our junior hockey players. Our aim is to create the best development opportunities, with the right dose of fun for every member, regardless of age and hockey abilities. Whether coaching a team or an age group or simply providing an encouraging word or a guiding hand to a team-mate, we expect every player and parent to help us improve. We actively support the growth of our team-mates, the club and the broader hockey community.
We build character
Talent gets you there, but character keeps you there. Our character reveals itself when we are placed under significant pressure, and our best learning opportunities are when we come up short. On the hockey field we strive to be our best. When we win, we celebrate both our match and preparation efforts. When we lose, we reflect and learn. Tomorrow, our efforts begin anew.
While we aim to be our best, we make mistakes. So as volunteers, we try to keep things simple and transparent. We try to be consistent with our decision making – to set the right example as a club. If any player or parent doesn’t like what they see, we expect them to help solve the problem. No-one is too big to do the small things that need to be done. We define our success as modest improvement, consistently done.
